Katie Wood
VoiceKatie Wood is a soprano and vocal tutor with a broad range of experience teaching singers of all ages and abilities. She is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and continues her vocal development under the tuition of opera singer Sarah Rhodes.
Katie grew up in York, where her love of singing began at the age of five when she joined the school choir at Stamford Bridge Primary School. Since then, she has worked with a wide variety of musical groups and organisations, including York Musical Society, the Academy of Ancient Music and The Hallé.
As a performer, Katie has enjoyed a range of operatic roles, including Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Her performance experience informs her teaching, particularly in helping students develop confidence, musicality and a strong technical foundation.
Katie teaches both individual and small group singing, working with students from age 6 through to adults. She places a strong emphasis on healthy vocal technique, supporting vocal stamina, range and strength, and she enjoys helping students achieve clear vocal breakthroughs in their lessons. Her teaching covers a wide range of genres, including classical repertoire (with Italian, French and German), musical theatre, pop and folk.
Alongside her work at York Music Centre, Katie also teaches singing in school settings and is a Deputy Singing Tutor for Yorkshire Young Musicians.
